Troubleshooting the PowerBook On the Road

Can I put my PowerBook through the X-ray machine at the airport?

Yes, absolutely. Contrary to some misguided beliefs, the X-ray machines at airports DO NOT subject your PowerBook to the strong magnetic fields that destroy data.

Is it okay to transport my PowerBook while it is in sleep mode?

Yes. In fact, Apple recommends you do just that. See the next question.

When should I put my PowerBook in sleep mode versus shutting it down?

There are only four instances when it should be shut down. Otherwise, let it sleep! They are:

- When you attach or remove a second (external) monitor.
- When you want to make it a part of the SCSI chain of another computer.
- When you want to restart it with a different assortment of extensions and control panels.
- If it's a PowerBook Duo, then it must be shut down before inserting it into a Duo Dock.
