The PowerMacintosh 8600 contains an upgradeable processor card running on a 50MHz logic board bus. A 2GB SCSI hard drive is standard on the Fast SCSI internal bus. The 8600 is in most ways an 8500 in a new case. The video in/out capabilities are retained with the standard logic board design. These systems typically ship with 32 MB of RAM in interleaved memory slots, and usually ship as pairs of chips; two 16MB DIMMs. A built-in ZIP disk is an unexpected bonus. The case design of the 8600/9600 is designed for easy component installation and removal and comes with a security lock.
