| Born with the PowerBooks 140 and 170, the PowerBook 100 (code named "Derringer" and "Rosebud") was the low-end, budget version of Apple's new laptop series. It was designed without an internal floppy drive and sound-recording capabilities. Also, it was constructed with a miniscule 40MB hard drive and a cheap, lightweight plastic case. Needless to say, this PowerBook pioneer did not sell well. Apple finally had to cut its price down to $800 in order to get rid of the remaining 100's in inventory. Current used market value of a 4/40 configuration: $175 |
